HS Water Pols: Murrieta Valley Slips Past Aliso Niguel 7-6 in the CIF Southern Section Division 2 Playoff Opener

The Nighthawks Travels to Face Top-seed Foothill on Saturday

Murrieta Valley extended its 2017 Water Polo season Thursday by defeating Aliso Niguel 7-6 in the opening round of the CIF Southern Section Division 2 Playoffs. Murrieta Valley got 2 goals each from Nick Rogers and Garrett Ritter to slip past the Wolverines.

Aliso Niguel jumped out to a 2-1 lead on goals by Skyler Lee. The Nighthawks got a goal from William Barnes. Murrieta Valley scored three times in the second period from Carson Paiva, Weston Restad and Garrett Ritter to make it a 4-3 match at halftime.

The Nighthawks and Wolverines traded goals in the third. Ritter scored his second of the night in the period. Aliso Niguel then scored 1 and tied it 5-5 early in the 4th period. NIck Rogers and Barnes would score in the final period as the Nighthawks held on to beat Aliso Niguel 7-6.

Murrieta Valley goalkeeper junior Collin Winters, nicknamed “The Wall” played a good, aggressive game in the net.

We were off today.really off at times,” said Murrieta Valley Head Coach Bryon Lynton. “Those were two good looks and shots, and we needed them both as it turned out.”

Murrieta Valley with travel to top-seed Foothill of Santa Ana on Saturday for Round 2 of the CIF Southern Section Division 2 Playoffs.

The Knights are19-7 and the Crestview League co-Champions. They beat Damien 14-7 in the opening round.
