HS Wresting: Temecula Valley Wins the San Clemente Invitational Championship

Vista Murrieta Takes Fifth Place; Southwestern League Wrestlers Take Four Gold Medals

Temecula Valley won the San Clemente Invitational Wrestling Tournament this weekend. The Golden Bears scored 223.5 points, with 11 of their wrestlers placing, Temecula outdistanced Rancho Buena Vista by 20 points to capture the Championship. Vista Murrieta finished in fifth place with 92 points.

The Golden Bears had three wrestlers take first place medals in their respective weight divisions. They were Michael Alawneh (138), Tyler Jorgensen (170) and Ryan Cosio (182).

Temecula Valley’s Dillan Johnson (132), Noah Graciano (152), Antonio Khanthasa (160) and Jacob Fortin (195) all placed second in the tournament. Michael Scarponi placed third at 145 pounds and Ronald Cunningham (106 ), Roman Carrillo (113) and Joshua Navis (285) all placed fifth for the Golden Bears.

The Broncos had six wrestlers score points. Arturo Baeza took first place in the 120 lb division, Alex Barajas (125) placed second and Brent Turnwall (113) third. Rocco Biondi (195), Tavis Shippen (220) and Brian Phan (152) all came home with fourth place finishes.

Vista Murrieta travels to Temecula Valley fr their dual match this Thursday. The defending Southwestern League Champion Golden Bears are seeking their 28th consecutive league title.
