The Wolfpack Sent their Younger Wrestlers to Compete in the Tournament in Orange Glen
While the Wolfpack Varsity was busy at Temecula Valley’s Battle of the Belts this weekend, Coach Joe Conroy sent his younger wrestlers to compete in the Jim Londos Memorial Tournament in Orange Glen. The Wolfpack finished in fourth place, 100 points behind Poway’s junior varsity wgo won the Tournament. The Poway Varsity would end up running away with the Battle of the Belts Tournament in Temecula.
“We used Saturday to take some of our younger guys to Orange Glen to the Jim Londos Memorial Invitational” said coach Conroy. “We had seven sophomores in the lineup in order to get them some experience and mat time. John Gonzales led my group of sophomores by capturing another 1st place finish. He is a budding superstar and continues to impress everyone. Junior JT Read is finally getting comfortable in his wrestling weight after football showed his great athleticism and battled to a third place finish.
Kevin Karpenske was wrestling up a weight class in his season debut in probably the toughest weight class of the tournament. The senior finished fourth in the 145 weight class. Dylan Holt who has been battling an illness all winter also managed to place 4th place at 113 pounds. Junior Ryan Brady finished in 5th place in his weight class.
“As a team we finished in 4th place and that is a pretty incredible accomplishment at the Jim Londos Memorial Invitational” said Conroy. It gives us high expectations going forward with this young team”.
