HS Wrestling: Temecula Valley Finishes Second, Great Oak Fifth in the CIF Southern Section Championships

Murrieta Mesa is 14th, Vista Murrieta 15th and Chaparral Comes in 22nd
Northview High School from Covina dominated this yea’s CIF Southern section Wrestling Championships held at Temecula Valley . The Vikings took home 8 First place trophy’s and scored a whopping 346 points.

Temecula Valley placed second with 162.5 points. The Golden Bears showed a marked improvement from last year’s fourth place finish. The Southwestern League had four other teams finish in the top 25 and will be sending 13 qualifiers to next week’s CIF Masters Tournament.


Temecula Valley will be sending five wrestlers to the Masters. Ryan Cosio won the182-pound title and Dillan Johnson placed second at 132. Jacob Fortin was third at 195, Tyler Jorgensen 4th at 170 and Mike Scarpini finihed 5th at 135 to qualify for the Golden Bears.

Great Oak finished a strong fourth in the tournament. The Wolfpack has two Masters qualifiers. John Gonzalez (113) and Joseph Conroy (145) both placed second in their weight class for the Wolfpack.

Murrieta Mesa surprised the field as the Rams finished in 14th place. They will be sending Dakota Wagner (126) and Rodrigo Nolan (285) who both brought home second place trophies. Marcus Specker (132) also qualified with a fifth place finish.

Vista Murrieta follows the Rams at 15th place. The Broncos qualified to wrestlers to advance to this week’s tournament. Arturo Baeza was second at 20 and Alex Baragas (126) took fifth in his division.

Chaparral was 22nd in the tournament. The Pumas are sending Emmitt Brooks, who won the 195 title.
