Lake Elsinore: 50 Drivers Cited in Wednesday’s Distracted Driver Enforcement Operation

The Lake Elsinore Police Department wrote 50 citations in a statewide enforcement operation on April 17, 2019. The operation focused enforcement on distracted drivers. Special patrols were deployed to crack down on drivers who violated traffic laws meant to protect all roadway users.

Officers from the Lake Elsinore Police Department patrolled various areas of city looking for violations. Officers were looking for violations made by drivers that can lead to life changing injuries or fatalities.

Traffic fatalities are rising in California. Locally, Lake Elsinore Police Department has investigated 29 fatal collisions during the past three (3) years. California witnessed 3,680 traffic deaths in 2016.

Yesterday’s enforcement operation generated the following results:

*31 drivers were cited for distracted driver violations

*19 drivers were cited for various other hazardous violations

Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
