Lake Elsinore: Drunk Driver Slams into Another Car & Kills a 67 Year Old Man Sunday


 

A deadly crash that happened early Sunday morning has claimed the life of a 67-year-old man. The accident occurred at

around 2:30 am in the vicinity of Grand Avenue and Vail Street located in the community of Lakeland Village.

Jose Mateo Montejo, 22, a resident of Lake Elsinore was arrested Sunday evening, accused of driving under the influence of alcohol. He has been jailed in French Valley and bail has been set at $75,000.

That victim of the deadly crash has been identified as 67-year-old Barry Blunt. A GoFundMe page has been started to help pay for funeral expenses. Blunt also was from Lake Elsinore.

Montejo was driving a 2006 Buick Rendezvous when he rammed into Blunt’s 1972 Chevy Chevelle. Montejo made an unsafe turning movement to the left causinghis car to travel into the southbound traffic lane directly in front of Blunt,who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Montejo was also injured in the crash and was taken to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar. He suffered minor to moderate injuries.

The Temecula Area California Highway Patrol is conducting this traffic collision investigation.
