On Thursday, January 10, 2019, at approximately 1:50 p.m., officers assigned to the Lake Elsinore Police Department’s Problem Oriented Policing Team were conducting proactive enforcement in the area of Riverside Drive and Walnut Drive.
During their patrol, they saw a red Hyundai SUV being driven in the area, and recognized it as a vehicle which had been reported stolen earlier that day. Officers attempted to conduct an enforcement stop, and a vehicle pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit lasted for several minutes as the suspect drove through the northwest area of the city of Lake Elsinore. The pursuit concluded when the suspect collided with a fence and the vehicle became disabled.
The suspect, later identified as Carlos Chavez Castillo, a 30 year old resident of Lake Elsinore, was taken into custody without further incident. Castillo was booked into Cois Byrd Detention Center for Vehicle Theft, Possession of Stolen Vehicle, Recklessly Evading Law Enforcement, and Parole Violations. There were no injuries to bystanders or deputies as a result of this incident.
