Murrieta: Bicyclist Struck & Killed by a Van Sunday Evening

The 43-Year Old Cyclist Died of Head Injuries Suffered in the Collision

On Sunday, December 3, 2017 at about 5:57 p.m., the Murrieta Police Department received a call of a traffic collision involving a bicyclist at Washington Ave and Davenport Way.

Murrieta Police and Murrieta Fire personnel arrived and found the 43 year old male bicyclist suffering from head injuries. The bicyclist was transported to Inland Valley Hospital by AMR and later died from his injuries.

The Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office is handling the cause of death investigation. The male’s identify is being withheld at this time until next of kin is notified.

The preliminary investigation reveals the bicyclist and a male driver of a white Pontiac van were both traveling Northbound on Washington Ave. The collision occurred between Lemon St. and Davenport Way. The cause of the collision is still under investigation.

The male driver of the van was not injured. Drugs and/or Alcohol do not appear to be a contributing factor.
