Murrieta: Probationer Pleads Guilty to a Hit & Run that Killed a 10 Year Old Boy in Lake Elsinore on March 13

David Loperena, 26, of Lake Elsinore entered into a plea agreement during pretrial proceedings at the Southwest Justice Center in Murrieta on Monday. Loperena pleaded guilty for running over10-year-old Anthony Ochoa of Lake Elsinore on March 13th . The defendant fled the scene

Ochoa was struck by Loperena’s pickup truck at the intersection of Langstaff Street and Sumner Avenue when he and his sister were crossing the intersection that Tuesday evening.

According to witnesses, the truck struck the boy and he rolled onto the hood of the pickup, landing on the windshield. The truck slowed long enough for the injurred boy to slide off of the vehicle and then sped away.

The 10-year-old was rushed to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar, but died. Detectives identified Loperena’s Chevrolet as the one involved in the hit-and-run with the help witnesses on March 14.

Loperena was on probation at the time and has had prior misdemeanor convictions for driving under the influence and theft. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for January 3.Meanwhile, Loperena remains free on a $75,000 bond.
