The 5-year-old Murrieta boy that police discovered after receiving a 911 call on the morning of Aug. 15, is slowly recovering. Authorities believe the boy was tortured by his father and his father’s girlfriend. The child was almost comatose when he was found. He is slowly showing signs of improvement after months of medical care.
“His condition has improved,” said Murrieta Police Spokesman Ron Driscoll . “He’s no longer in the grave condition that he once was in and he’s making some definite medical improvements.”
The case had been turned over to the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office. Benjamin Matthew Whitten, the boy’s father, and his girlfriend, Jeryn Christine Johnson, are each charged with a felony count of torture and another of child endangerment. Their court date has been set for December 1.
Whitten was in the Navy and worked at Naval Base Point Loma,
