An SUV Hits a Concrete Pillar under the Overpass & Burst into Flames
The California Highway Patrol reports of a deadly crash at the Interstate 15 and I-215 junction. The accident has claimed the life one person Thursday morning. CHP officials say that a SUV slammed into a pillar underneath a freeway connector at about 11:30 am.
The accident was along the southbound side of Interstate 15, under the I-215 overpass. Emergency personnel were promptly at the scene but the driver of the SUV died at the scene. No other injuries or vehicles were reported in the collision.
According to CHP Officer Mike Lassig, witnesses reported that the driver was heading south on the freeway. As the SUV approached the bridge, witnesses say the SUV veered toward the concrete pillar and made direct impact. They estimated the SUV’s speed at about 80 miles per hour. The driver did not appear to attempt to slow down or brake.
The Temecula CHP is currently investigating the crash.
