Riverside: Alert Citizen’s Tip Leads to Arrest of Suspected Mail Thief

On Thursday, October 4th in the evening at about 5:41 p.m., the Riverside Police and Fire Emergency Dispatc h Center received a call regarding a possible mail theft in the area of the 2200 block of Rawlings Place. The reporting party said the suspect, later identified as Juan Perez, 26-years-old of Riverside, had broken into a community mailbox and placed the stolen mail in his pocket. 

The witness followed the suspect from a safe distance and provided updates to Dispatch. While he made his way down Central Avenue towards the 91 freeway, officers quickly caught up to the suspect and took him safely into custody. Perez was arrested and booked into jail for mail theft.

The Riverside Police Department would like is praising the community member for reporting the alleged mail theft and giving the officers updates, which led to the quick arrest of the suspect.
