Riverside: Knife Wielding Suspect Disarmed & Apprehended by K9


On August 9, 2017, at 5:48 p.m., officers responded to the 9700 block of Magnolia Avenue regarding an assault with a deadly weapon. The suspect entered the business and got into an argument with the employees before brandishing and swinging a knife at them.

An employee then sprayed the suspect with pepper spray and the suspect left the business. The employees locked themselves inside until officers arrived.

Several officers, along with a K9 officer with his partner “Finn,” responded. Before making contact, officers developed a plan to safely disarm and detain the suspect. The officers and K9 Finn gave the suspect verbal commands, which the suspect complied and was safely detained.

The suspect was identified as Christopher Chieco, 57-year-old of Riverside. The Riverside Fire Department responded and treated Chieco for the pepper spray exposure. He was arrested and later booked into jail for assault with a deadly weapon.
