Riverside: Man Arrested after Trying to Rob the Marriott Hotel on Market Street Friday Night


At around 10:30 p.m. on Friday, February 9, 2018, officers responded to an attempted robbery that just occurred at the Marriott Hotel, located in the 3400 block of Market Street.

A suspect walked up to the front desk and produced a threatening note demanding money while holding his hand inside his sweatshirt pocket to insinuate a weapon. The suspect then fled on foot prior to receiving any money from the hotel clerk.

Officers assigned to the Downtown Entertainment District responded and began checking the area for the suspect. They located someone matching the description walking near the Fox Theater. When this person saw the police car approaching, he quickly changed direction in an attempt to elude the officers but was quickly detained.

The suspect was positively identified by the victim and through surveillance footage. A records check also revealed he was on active probation for robbery. Evan Spriggs, 32-years-old of Riverside, was arrested and booked into jail for attempted robbery and probation violations.
