The Male Driver of a Jeep Grand Cherokee Fled the Scene on Foot after the Collision
On Saturday, June 9, 2018, at about 3:16 a.m., a Riverside Police Officer on patrol observed two vehicles that had just been in a traffic collision on Market Street, just south of Rivera Street in the City of Riverside.
Preliminary investigation shows a black Nissan Sentra driven by a female driver in her 20’s was traveling northbound Market Street, beginning a turn to enter the westbound 60 Freeway, when her vehicle was struck by a green Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling southbound Market Street.
The female driver sustained moderate injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. A male passenger in his 20’s inside her vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics with the Riverside Fire Department. Another male passenger in his 20’s from the same vehicle was taken to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries and died.
The male driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee fled the scene on foot immediately after the collision.
Members of the Riverside Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) responded to assume the investigation. After investigating many leads, detectives from the Riverside Police Department’s Traffic Division responded to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center and arrested 22 year-old Fontana resident, Eric Alfredo Figueroa-Reyes, for felony hit and run.
