Eleven Local High School Teams Will Compete for their Respective Divisional Championships
Its CIF Southern Section Baseball Championship time and the Boys Baseball playoff pairings were released today. Eleven local schools will be attempting to bring home the First Place Trophy this year. Wild Card games are on Wednesday and Round one games begin on Friday, May 20.
Great Oak (16-14, 9-6) earned a wildcard spot with their third place finish in the Southwestern League. The Wolfpack face Dana Hills (13-16, 5-7) at home on Wednesday to get the tournament started.
The Southwestern League Champion Murrieta Mesa Rams (22-7, 12-3) were ranked sixth in the final CIF SS baseball polls are the number one seed in the Division 1 Brackets. The Rams will host the winner of the Lakewood (20-10, 8-4) – Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks) (19-10, 10-8) Wildcard game.
Vista Murrieta will be at Aliso Niguel (21-9, 7-5), the second place team from the South Coast League to begin the tournament.
Elsinore (12-18, 7-6) will travel to face Xavier Prep (11-15, 6-6) in their Wildcard game. The Sunbelt League Champion Temescal Canyon Titans finished the season as the number 10 team in the CIF SS Division III polls. They will take on the third place finisher in the Pacific Coast League, Corona Del Mar (21-4, 11-3) in the tournament opener.
Paloma Valley will also be at home and the Wildcats will play host to Charter Oak (14-11, 11-4) out of the Hacienda League.
Linfield Christian (21-6) finished the season in second place in the Ambassador league. They will begin the tournament in a Wild Card game against Windward (14-8, 8-6), the fourth place team out of the Gold Coast League.
Tahquitz will open the tournament in Banning against the Banning Broncos (16-4, 12-3). The Titans (15-9, 11-4) placed second in the Mountain Pass League.
Calvary Murrieta (16-5, 9-1) ended the 2016 regular season as South Valley League Champions and were ranked third in the CIF SS Division VII polls. They edged out a much improved Rancho Christian(17-7, 8-2) team that came second and was ranked number ten in the final poll.
The Warriors will battle St. Genevieve (6-11, 5-5) out of the Santa Fe League and the Eagles play host to the Arrowhead League’s California Lutheran(11-9, 11-3). THe South Valley’s third place finisher Temecula Prep (10-9-1, 5-5) will travel to play Desert Christian Academy (11-11-1, 6-2).
