San Diego Sector Border Patrol has Seized 996.94 Pounds of Cocaine Valued at $9,969,400 during Fiscal Year 2019
On June 19 at approximately 1:30 p.m., agents assigned to the U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint on westbound Interstate 8 observed the approach of a silver 2007 Volkswagen Jetta. The primary agent referred the male driver to secondary inspection.
In secondary inspection, a Border Patrol K-9 team performed a sniff of the vehicle, which resulted in an alert. At that time, agents inspected the vehicle and discovered four bundles hidden in an after-market compartment inside the dashboard.
Agents removed the four bundles, which weighed 9.88 pounds. The substance tested positive for cocaine and was valued at $98,800.
The driver, a 25-year-old Mexican citizen who possessed a Border Crosser Card, was placed under arrest and the narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration. The U.S. Border Patrol seized the vehicle.
To prevent the illicit smuggling of humans, drugs, and other contraband, the U.S. Border Patrol maintains a high level of vigilance on corridors of egress away from our Nation’s borders. To report suspicious activity to the U.S. Border Patrol, contact San Diego Sector at (619) 498-9900
