SoCal: The 3rd Annual Special Olympics are coming to Murrieta Mesa High School Tomorrow


As Many as 650 Students from the Murrieta Area are Expected to Compete Tomorrow, Friday March 22

The Special Olympics are coming to Murrieta Mesa tomorrow Friday March 22nd. Opening ceremonies are set for 10am-10:30 with a Parade of Athletes, Athletes taking their Athletic Oath and the Lighting of the Cauldron.

The Murrieta Police Department will be escorting the athletes in with a motorcade and then assisting with running in the torch. There will also be an Olympic Village with vendors and games.

“This event provides so many uplifting moments for athletes, parents and educators. It is an honor to be a part of a district committed to inclusion who celebrates the success of students with intellectual disabilities and provides opportunities for them to excel” said Lori Coleman-MVUSD Special Olympics Committee Co-Chair.

Over 650 students from Murrieta area are expected to compete tomorrow in the district’s Second Annual Special Olympics. The games are scheduled to start at 10 a.m. and last until 2:00 p.m. at Murrieta Mesa High School’s stadium, 24801 Monroe, Murrieta.

“This is my favorite day of the year!” states Jacquie Acosta, mother of Special Olympic athlete Josh Acosta. She further states, “Josh looks forward to this event from the moment he starts to train, as a family, we absolutely love seeing other students from throughout the district cheer their peers on as they compete.”

 

 

The Special Olympics Inland Empire enriches the lives of more than 1,600 athletes with intellectual disabilities and their communities through sports, education, and athlete health.

The Special Olympics is one of nine regional programs of Special Olympics Southern California and offers year-round sports training and competitions for athletes in all The event is open to the public so come on out and support these Special Athletes.of Riverside and San Bernardino counties.

Sponsored by the Murrieta Valley Unified School District in a partnership with Special Olympics Southern California Inland Empire. This event is an opportunity for district students with disabilities to compete in various track and field events.
