SoCal: Weird Light in the Sky Bewilders Many Southern Californians

A SpaceX Falcon 9 Rocket Launched at Vandenberg Air Force Base Seen throughout Southern California

A strange site and bizarre light trail lit up the skies of Southern California on Friday evening. Was it a UFO? A Korean attack…or even Santa Claus? The bright, glowing trail seemed unearthly. It appeared in the sky and lingered there for ten minutes or so.

Turns out that the lights had a earthly origin. It was a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket that was launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base at 5:27 pm. Vandenberg is just outside of Lompoc, about 150 miles north of Los Angeles.

The SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket had 10 satellites to deliver intoa low-Earth orbit. Thousands of people in the Inland Empire and all the way south to Temecula and even San Diego reported seeing the light.
