On Tuesday June 6, 2017, at about 4:39 pm, an off-duty Riverside County Sheriff’s deputy was driving near the 21900 block of Bundy Canyon Road in the City of Wildomar. The off-duty deputy saw a 2004 Ford F250 truck parked at the location. He believed it could possibly be a stolen truck from a posting the vehicle theft victim had made earlier in the day on social media.
The off-duty deputy called Sheriff’s dispatch and provided the trucks license plate. He also gave a description of the driver and passenger who got out of the truck and went into an open business at the location.
Officers from the City of Wildomar Police Department responded and detained the driver and the passenger without incident as the exited the business. The officers’ investigation revealed the truck had been reported stolen at about 8:00 am that same day in the City of Murrieta.
The driver of the truck, Richard Burns 20 years old, and resident of Lake Elsinore was arrested for vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, and violation of probation. He was booked into the Southwest Detention Center. The passenger was not arrested. The truck was returned to the victim.
