HS Girls Soccer: Paloma Valley Fights to a 0-0 Draw…Loses to Ventura 3-1 in the Shootout

The Wildcats Lose their First Game of the Season in the CIF Southern California Division IV Championship Game

Paloma Valley’s magical and historic girls soccer season came to an end Saturday. The Wildcats had been unbeaten through 29 games, amassing a 26-0-3 record. Paloma Valley had shut out their opponents in 17 consecutive matches.

They battled to a scoreless draw on the final game of the season. Ventura slipped past the Wildcats 3-1 in the season’s final shootout. Ventura goalkeeper, sophomore Kambria Haughton stopped three consecutive Wildcats penalty kicks to win the game.

“We had an amazing year,” Wildcats coach Carlos Alfaro said. “We set amazing records. We were the first CIF champs at Paloma, and there will never another first CIF champ for Paloma.”

The Wildcats had defeated Ventura 1-0 in last week’s Southern Section’s Division 4 championship match at Corona High.
